The Tripartite Alliance, namely, African National Congress (ANC), Congress of South African Trade Unions (COSATU), and South African Communist Party (SACP) appears to be an incompartible or shaky threesome, and this has been highlighted by the reflection and debates on former South African Government Deputy President Jacob Zuma.
One wanders why some COSATU's leading figures, particularly, the COSATU Secretary-General Zwelinzima Vavi, has made Mr Jacob Zuma's case his, and has gone out of his way to declare his undivided support and allegiance. Could it be that he is trying to plan his future exit from COSATU by aligning himself with those who appear to be promising a better future in politics while using the power and platform of COSATU - or he is just a genuinely concerned person for the welfare of Mr Jacob Zuma?
One wanders if the powerful ANC is good for the politics of South Africa? The way the Tripartite Alliance is behaving, one wanders if a split in future will not help the politics of South Africa? In my dreams, based on my reflections on the developments in the South African politics, I see COSATU taking a direction of breaking away from an Alliance, and contesting elections as a labour movement (patterned against Britain's Blair-led Labour Movement).
I doubt if the future of the SACP lies in breaking away from the Tripartite Alliance. If the SACP were to opt out of the threesome marriage, the SACP might, due to its dwindling numbers, die a natural death and disappear into oblivion.
